Why Is Coffee Bad For You?

Coffee is loved by the majority of people in the world. It is very unlikely for you to come across someone who dislikes this beverage. From what I have seen, in most cases people don’t dislike the taste – The main reason why they don’t drink the coffee is due to health problems related to it. While coffee is believed to be a completely safe drink that can be consumed on a daily basis, it definitely has some bad side effects that not everyone might be familiar with.

Don’t get me wrong – I myself adore coffee and consume it on daily basis. Consuming coffee definitely has some advantages, however, an excessive (or even moderate, in some cases) use of anything can lead to some negative consequences. That’s why it will not be a surprise to say that consuming coffee comes with its own disadvantages. We are going to discuss them one by one in this article, so make sure to keep reading. All in all, it is never a bad idea to know more about your favorite drink.

5 Disadvantages of Drinking Coffee

As we have promised, in this part of the article, we will discuss the disadvantages of drinking coffee. Keep in mind that these things can sometimes be 100% individual and not everyone is affected the same way.

Low-Quality (A.k.a bad coffee) may be harmful

Unpleasant quality coffee might include a lot of contaminants, which can induce nausea, headaches, or just a bad sensation in general. This can happen if your coffee is brewed from overripe or otherwise destroyed beans. Even one spoiled bean can contaminate your cup. However, you will never have to worry about this if you invest in high-quality, specialty coffee that comes from a reputable and trustworthy company.

Coffee has the potential to kill

Believe it or not, coffee actually has the ability to kill someone. If you consume somewhere between 70 and 100 cups in a very short period of time – the dosage will be fatal, resulting in 10-14 grams of caffeine in your body. However, because this amount of liquid is a lot, you’ll be vomiting most of it out before you get to this stage.

In some cases, you don’t even need to consume that much. The majority of coffee specialists advise that an individual does not drink more than 4-5 cups in a day, otherwise, it will lead to negative health consequences including anxiety, headache, vomiting, and many more. Once again, this can be very individual so the best idea is to know your limits.

Coffee can promote sleeplessness and agitation

Because coffee contains a lot of caffeine (some more, some less), it does its work. The suggested maximum dose of caffeine is 400 milligrams, which is about equivalent to 4 cups of coffee. Consuming this beverage must be avoided at all costs if your body is caffeine-sensitive. You probably already know what amount and type of coffee suits or do not suit you. Caffeine levels that are acceptable for human consumption are really encoded in our DNA.

In case you have high cholesterol, it is the best idea to choose a filtered coffee

Kahweol and cafestol, two chemicals found in coffee beans, appear to elevate cholesterol levels. Although filtering coffee removes the majority of the LDL, cafestol, and kahweol can be detected in a French press, Espresso, and Scandinavian style “cooked coffee.”

However, it is important to note that the amount of LDL in a cup of espresso is still so minimal that persons with normal cholesterol levels are unaffected. There are also some preliminary studies that show that cafestol and kahweol may have some anti-cancer benefits and be helpful for your liver

Coffee can be harmful to pregnant people

Coffee’s effect on a fetus has been controversially studied, but one thing is certain: if you consume coffee while pregnant, caffeine will reach the fetus, and your kid is extremely sensitive to caffeine. So, if you’re a big coffee consumer who can’t quit drinking it while pregnant, it is the best idea to limit yourself to one cup each day.

So, is coffee bad or good, in the end?

If you have high cholesterol, are caffeine sensitive, pregnant, or have a kid (or are the parent of one), you should limit your coffee consumption.

For others, moderate doses of coffee (1-5 cups per day) might be beneficial. It can help you lose weight, prevent dangerous ailments, and improve your mind and muscles. Keep in mind that as long as you consume toxin-free, specialty coffee and make it carefully, you can and should enjoy it knowing it’s beneficial for you.
