This is light weight and seems to be thin metal, no rusting as of yet so we will see how good the stainless holds up.
The spot welds holding the lid and the handles on are fairly small so I do not recommend being rough with this pot.
The filter basket strainer has small holes and filter well for not using a paper element. Very little grounds got past, and they mostly settle to the bottom of the pot anyway. I use Folgers so they may make a more coarse grind to stop this.
I used this on a propane burner to make coffee. I did not try this on a campfire and will not use it on a campfire, due to the insulator is wooden and I think it would burn off. If you want one for a campfire I would choose a different one.
Overall it worked great. once it starts to Percolate, I turn down the heat so it would slowly perc. Then when it looks dark enough in the see through. Shut it off let set 2 minutes ( allows strainer to drain) and enjoy.
On my coleman stove, as soon as it comes to a boil, turn the heat way down. Just use common sense and it makes a nice pot of coffee. The handle didn't get hot on me.
I'm very happy with my purchase.
Durable
For a 12-cup pot, I use 6 scoops of coffee and cook on medium-high until I see the first perk-bubble, usually about 15-20 minutes. Then I turn the burner down to medium. You don't want hard-perking, or you'll end up with grounds in your coffee. Perk gently for about 5-7 minutes. Turn burner to low, pour a cup, and enjoy!
I leave the basket and spindle in until I'm ready for my second cup, allowing the coffee grounds to steep a little longer. I use my dishwashing gloves to do this; the basket and spindle are hot.
It's not necessarily a quick way to have your coffee, but it is worth it.
